What is a Campscape?

Our Campscape is your escape from overly organised and busy campsites and is all about camping in a peaceful and beautiful landscape. Whatever your purpose: nature, medieval villages, history, hiking and biking, seclusion or romance, on our estate you will find both the space and the facilities for pure relaxation and recreation.

Mission and Joy
In reaction to Ronalds burn-out we were looking for ways to escape the hectic of modern life, the necessity of growth and the suffocation of certain moral high grounds. Like if it was written in the stars, we stumbled online upon this rural, almost remote and atypical campsite in Parque Natural da Serra de Sao Mamede, Portugal.
A month later we visited the Alto Alentejo for the first time and fell in love with the beautiful estate (not necessarily the campsite) in its astonishing geological landscape. The rich flora and fauna and the untouched cultural historic wealth of the region. But most of all: A chance to escape the SYSTEM, embrace SIMPLICITY, the SILENCE, the SUN and the STARS and rediscover the joy of our SENSES in a mighty SLOW pace of life.
Three months later (September 2021) it became our home. We decampsitified the grounds into a beautiful park for ourselves and for guests to blend in into the landscape.

Our Mission is simply to be happy, to take care of and cherish our estate as a refuge for ourselves and our guests. Our Joy is to share our wonderful treasure. To welcome a diversity of guests and provide them a home away from home … in an astonishing fairytale-like landscape.

The Campscape

The estate of 3 ha is a natural sloping terrain that is divided into parts by old original stonewalls and a Ribeiro (creek). The estate consists of the donkey grounds, the camp stretch and the accessible Stonehill Park. You’ll find camping spots on both sides of the path at the Olive Tree Plateau (with sanitary building), the Eucalyptus/Pool Area and the Green Field at the end of the path. Across the grounds you’ll find waterpoints and drying racks for your wash (please don’t hang anything in or on our trees, they are reserved for olive growth, the birds and the bees).

We have recognisable spots with electricity integrated into the natural landscape setting. You can set up on available spots, with respect to others and the grounds. We limit the number of occupied spots allowing everyone to pick a preferred spot and enjoy the peace and tranquility of this unique, still unspoiled region.

Campscape regulations: Use common sense

Please, don't use your campervan as your daily car. Our estate is not a park and drive, but a traffic free park to camp and relax. We have a taxiservice to the nicest sights.
Leave it as you found it (leave the stones and and lights as they are)! Take care of the facilities, the grounds and each other!
Only well socialised dogs - to people and other dogs - are welcome, always on a leash and under control. Please present your dog(s) at checkin.
Please do not hang anything in or on our trees and respect the (grass-flower) borders of your spot. At the sanitary building and on the green field there are drying racks available to dry your wash.
Park your car or trailer in the designated parking areas, not at your pitch!
Because of local regulations, open fire or barbecue on coals are prohibited. Please don't smoke while walking around. Smoking is allowed on the terrace or at your own spot (always have an ashtray with water at hand).
We take no responsibility for any loss or accidents on the grounds. You stay at your own risk.
The gates to the estate close at 19.00. As a guest you can open the gates and enter/exit the estate. However, after 22.00 hour you cannot enter the campground with your motorised vehicle and have to park it in front of kiosk Amsterdao.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have special spots for campervans?

No, you can stay in the natural park like all campers. Please notice: The access to our estate and the actual camping spots is a fragile path, not suitable for many or heavy trafficmovements. So if you’re planning to use your campervan to go out visiting sights, don’t book our site. Our place is all about an undisturbed, traffic free, super silent stay in an amazing, unspoiled landscape. You can use the taxiservice if you need a ride.

Is it a gay Campscape?

No, the Campscape is not gay, but we are. We pride ourselves in providing a safe and friendly home away from home for all (without children). We celebrate diversity, life would be very boring without. But we are anti-woke! We speak our minds freely and learn from each other.

Why is there a minimum stay of 2 nights?

Our aim is to provide a peaceful, friendly environment where all guests can enjoy our estate and the beautiful region under optimal conditions. At the same time we also like to create a sociable atmosphere, where it’s easy to interact with other guests and your hosts. To keep the peace and minimise traffic we don’t accommodate guests who are looking for a one-night shower/dump/parking spot.

Why are children under 16 not allowed?

We like to provide a setting that is not focussed on the traditional family life and thus appealing to people with a different lifestyle. For families with (young) children there are enough possibilities to camp in the region.

We have a motorhome bigger than 7 meters, can you accommodate us?

Sorry NO, we don’t accommodate vehicles larger than 7 meters. Our natural park just isn’t suitable for big vehicles. Most of our guests love small-scale camping in nature. Big motorhomes just don’t fit the scenery we like to provide. No exceptions!

Can we have a campfire or barbecue at our camping spot?

No, because of the fire hazard in this part of Portugal and Spain, barbecues on coal and open fires are not allowed on the estate. Barbecues on gas are allowed.

Where is the nearest grocery store?

The nearest local grocery store is in Santo António das Areias (5 km). There is a modern supermarket ‘Pingo Doce’ in Castelo de Vide (8,5 km). Ask for ways to get there.

Are dogs allowed?

We only accept well socialised dog – to people and animals. We don’t accept dogs that are on the list of dangerous dog breeds. At checkin you have to present your dog to us and to Dushi.

Do you accept discount cards?

N0. There is a maze of camping organizations in Europe that (often at a cost and administrative burden for us) offer minimal price benefits through discount cards. We do not participate in this and hope that guests visit us because of an intrinsic motivation to visit our little paradise in the unique region of Alto Alentejo.
